Our mission, in a nutshell, is to make a fun, easy to play instrument rugged enough for professional use that won‘t break the bank.
The Builder:
Each guitar is handmade in Dripping Springs, TX by Walter Morgan. His first career was as a recording engineer and producer in Austin, TX.
He was the producer of the broadcast series "LiveSet" and "Live at the Cactus Cafe" and is a founding producer of National Public Radio‘s "Latino USA" as well as a contributor to many albums and other recording projects. An avid woodworker and guitar player, his love of music and woodworking have combined naturally to produce Texas Box Guitars.
The Guitar:
Our LPG boxes are made variously from Alder, Mesquite, Mahogany, Pecan or Maple and finished with linseed oil followed by wax-free shellac and top coated with Tru-Oil gunstock finish for a durable trouble free surface. The necks are 1" thick Maple outside of the box and 1.5" thick inside the box for added strength. Necks are finished with oil and shellac and top coated with acrylic lacquer. The nut is bone. The floating bridge is Rosewood and the stoptail is aluminum.
All LPG models come with nickel plated round wound electric strings in the following gauges, low to high. .044, .034, .026, .017 (plain steel.) CBG models have phosphor–bronze acoustic strings in the following gauges, .044, .034, 026, .017 (plain steel.) We order our strings from JustStrings.com and we highly recommend them for internet orders.
All of our guitars are equipped with a high-quality piezo-electric pickup.
We also occasionally have a 5 string model which includes all of the above LPG info plus a 2 way adjustable truss rod.
The Music:
Some folks seem to think that playing slide guitar is hard but we believe it‘s quite the contrary. If you can carry a tune you can play slide guitar. Just sing it! And since our guitars are equipped with only four strings, it‘s even easier to get into a blues groove.
It‘s great to have a guitar dedicated to slide so that your regular axe can remain in your favorite setup. Fun is the name of the game with a Texas Box Guitar! They are great for learning to play slide guitar or for refining your technique.
If you have one – EnJoy!
If not, get one – ToDay!
